Words of Becoming
Words of Becoming is a participatory event that explores meaning and intention in language and conversation. Visitors are invited to step inside a dedicated space designed as an installation of images and ephemera. There they will receive their "word of becoming”. During the art action, I sit at a desk and engage in conversation, encourage people to share thoughts and become a part of the process. A participatory dialog culminates in a calligraphic drawing.”. . As the dialog unfolds, a special and individual word emerges from the visitor, carrying a pertinent & powerful meaning. I write the word twice using a handmade calligraphy stick. One copy is freely given to the participant, the other placed on display.Like the north star on a compass a Word of Becoming can provide a sense of direction, act as a navigational tool, act as a step towards realizing a better story, towards a world of greater possibilities. In our divisive contemporary situation Words of Becoming acts to pull out those qualities we all share, qualities that build, enhance and support.
